The lesson here is that the more you build on yourself and your brand early on, the easier it will make your later successes. 

An example of how Nehemiah is making his digital marketing efforts work is how he operates in the front and backend. Nehemiah hooks his audience from Instagram and encourages them to purchase his ebook, for example. In addition to this ebook, he’s also resourceful enough to repurpose other marketing materials to upgrade that purchase. In this case, he directs people to a webinar from that ebook, so 10% of people who buy the ebook also pay for and attend the webinar. Many instances like this have helped him stay consistently on top. If he finds something that he can repurpose and sell, he sells it.

Building a Social Media Presence From Scratch

People love to talk about passive income, but they don’t really tell you how to get to that level. Today we’ll show you our three favorite passive income opportunities for online businesses. You will learn how you can start implementing these things into a new or existing business.

What Is Passive Income?

Passive income takes activity on your part to get started. Having sufficient passive income is possible, but it usually comes from many income sources. We have about 20 income sources, and a lot of them are happening even while we sleep. 

You may be trying to get passive income quickly. Realistically, it does not happen right away. By putting in a little effort over the next month, six months, and beyond, you will see passive income starting to come into your bank account.

Our first tip is our favorite way to start making money and turning it into passive income. It’s called ecommerce. Why is ecommerce one of the best passive income opportunities out there? Think about everything going on in the world right now. You have probably been ordering things mainly online for the past few years. Buyers continue to double month after month through online shopping. Wouldn’t you want to start your business around an industry that is already on the up? Of course you do! That is why ecommerce is our favorite way to get started, especially through dropshipping.

1. Dropshipping

Why do we say dropshipping is our top choice? Overall, it is the lowest risk and lowest cost way to get started.

Maybe you have a lot of money to get started on these passive income opportunities, and maybe you don’t. When we were getting started, we didn’t have a ton of money to reinvest into a new business. If you do, that’s perfect — it is going to make your journey a little bit easier. The goal is for you to make everything low-risk and at a low cost to yourself when you get started, especially when it is a new business idea. 

Consider these tips:

  • DON’T do things that are going to take up a lot of your time.
  • DON’T get involved in things that require a lot of upfront money.
  • DO start out with something low-cost.
  • DON’T spend time sourcing a huge volume of inventory.

For dropshipping, you generally work with overseas suppliers. They ship products on your behalf to your customers. Your job is 100 percent just to market the product. They give you a good price for products, and you charge more to your customers. You take the difference from what your customer pays, making it nearly risk-free. You could start with a couple of hundred bucks.

All the methods you are learning today can be stacked together. To generate real passive income, it works better when your income streams are complementary to each other. You should not completely rely on just one product, supplier, or method. Why? Because if your main one gets cut, all your income streams die. However, you do want them to be complementary. That way, when you are working on one thing, you are impacting the others, as well.

2. Sell Digital Products

Our second favorite way to start generating passive income is selling digital information products. Selling digital products is amazing because you create them once and then sell them over and over and over again.

The profit margins are better than selling physical products. There is a caveat, however, and we are sharing it here since we know some of you will decide to skip the dropshipping. Selling digital products only or by themselves can be very, very difficult. So how do you do it? How do you start?

Here is what we recommend. Let’s say you start a dropshipping business selling fishing equipment. Then you decide to start selling digital products. What you would do is sell digital products to the people that are already buying your physical fishing products. This is a sales technique called upselling.

For example, a customer buys a fishing lure from you. After they make that purchase, they go to your first upsell page with one click. You say, “Hey, do you want to purchase our five-video mastery guide series for tying your own fishing lures?” When they click “yes,” they purchase it with one click and are automatically billed.

The Big Benefit of Digital Products

That digital product — the video series — was created once. Maybe you paid somebody to create it for you or you made it yourself. You have some time invested in it. But every time you sell that video series, it is free money.

If you have a dropshipping business right now, try this. Put together a video course, a high-quality PLR (private label) product, or a PDF product. You can purchase information products from other websites and then resell them under your own label. It’s a great way to resell products and not have people asking for a refund.

The key is over-delivering the information products. With physical products, customers wait to get something in the mail — we call it the Christmas effect. We call a digital product the Amazon effect because they get it right away. Follow these tips:

  • DO sell the physical product first.
  • DON’T try to sell digital products as the front-end product.
  • DO upsell the digital product.
  • DO sell a mixture of both to start creating passive income.

3. Affiliate Marketing

Our third favorite way to build passive income is using affiliate marketing. Once you have your dropshipping business going and upselling digital products, it is time to add affiliate marketing. This essentially is where you sell other people’s products and earn a commission. You send them customers, and they handle the fulfillment. They manage all customer service, and you make a commission.

Affiliate marketing is a great business model but remember: you are not building your own business here. You are helping somebody else build theirs. It is important that you build your own customers and your own business. Don’t spend all of your time helping somebody else build their empire. You should even have affiliates for your own business!

Use affiliate marketing to interweave with your business for products that you don’t ever plan to sell. It is an amazing way to boost revenue for your business.

How to Start Affiliate Marketing

Let’s say, for example, that your business is selling supplements like green juices and smoothies. You like selling these products to fitness pros and people that love working out, but you are not interested in creating courses on that topic. The alternative is going to affiliate marketing websites such as Clickbank.com. You can sign up to be an affiliate for video courses, PDFs, and digital products. When your customers purchase the green juice, you refer them to the other company’s video training course (or whatever it is) and earn a commission. But keep these tips in mind:

  • DON’T refer your customers to other people’s products that you may sell in the future.
  • DON’T refer your customers to affiliated products just for the sake of earning a commission.
  • DO refer your customers to products that will benefit your customer, and you have no plans of launching yourself.
  • DON’T refer your customers to affiliate products that you would not use.

Ultimately, this application helps to increase the average cart value in Shopify stores by offering easy one-click upsells to customers after they have already provided their credit card information. So, you might be wondering why anyone would use Clickfunnels if they could just add the Zipify application to their existing Shopify store. 

Zipify is a great application to add to any Shopify store. But it lacks some of the top features that Clickfunnels can provide to all ecommerce entrepreneurs. 

What Is Clickfunnels?

Clickfunnels is an ecommerce software that looks very similar to the average Shopify store. However, the simple formula behind the sales funnels in Clickfunnels yields much better results compared to the average Shopify store. When using Clickfunnels, traffic is sent to a landing page or opt-in page. The purpose of this opt-in page is to collect the email of your customer before they make a purchase or leave the store. This email is an asset to your business as it allows you to send retargeting or promotion emails later on. After the email is collected in Clickfunnels, the customer then moves on to the checkout page. The checkout pages in Clickfunnels are a real game-changer for ecommerce entrepreneurs. 

The checkout hacks offered on Clickfunnels just can’t be found anywhere else. Order bumps and quantity break discounts are just some of the features that can be used with this software. Using these types of checkout hacks is a great way to increase the average cart value in any funnel. 

When comparing the Zipify and Clickfunnels upsells features, they are very similar overall. However, the one element that Clickfunnels offers and Zipify simply doesn’t is the one-click recurring revenue upsell. This one-click recurring upsell bills the customer on a monthly basis, usually for a subscription box similar to BarkBox or Dollar Shave Club. This feature really sets Clickfunnels apart from Zipify and all other competitors. 

The Zipify vs. Clickfunnels Debate 

So now that we know what the two software programs offer, what is the end consensus about choosing Zipify or Clickfunnels? Well, for the ecommerce newcomer, my suggestion would be to simply go with Clickfunnels. However, if you already have an established Shopify store, I would definitely invest in adding the Zipify application. It allows you to easily increase your average cart value for your store. If you have a Shopify store, I would invest in Clickfunnels, too, along with adding Zipify. 

My recommendation for Shopify store owners would be to run all of your cold traffic to a Clickfunnels page in order to get that first sale. Through this process, you can collect emails from potential customers. This will allow you to build your email list and retarget these customers and send them offers to your Shopify store. 

Again, if you are just starting out in the ecommerce industry, I would simply purchase Clickfunnels and forget about Shopify and Zipify. Clickfunnels gives you access to all of their services and features for a monthly price of $97. Getting both a Shopify store and the Zipify application can end up costing you an arm and a leg when it’s all said and done. Zipify charges $50 a month and takes 2-3% of the sales that it make you. On top of this, the average conversion rate on a Shopify store is much lower than the average funnel built through Clickfunnels. 

Final Thoughts: Zipify or Clickfunnels?

At the end of the day, either Zipify or Clickfunnels would be great software for anyone in the ecommerce industry. However, before you invest in either, make sure to do your research. Determine which software program will better suit your current situation and your long-term goals. For the average individual, I would invest in Zipify if I already had a Shopify store. However, if you’re just starting out, opt for Clickfunnels. It will provide you with everything you need to start building your ecommerce empire today.

How My Online Ecommerce Course Student Hit $50K per Month

Seeing our students prosper in the ecommerce industry never gets old. Steve Swiat is the latest example of a student who achieved financial success by continually improving his income-producing skills and learning from our online ecommerce course. Over five years, Steve went from dabbling in ecommerce to earning an Empire Builder Award. From his early days of selling magnetic knife holders to his adoption of sales funnels, Steve saw his dropshipping revenue grow from zero to $50,000 per month.

A Taste of the Wild West

Steve began dabbling in ecommerce in 2014 when he got his start as a Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) seller. The early days of FBA were much like the Wild West of ecommerce. Like many new FBA sellers, Steve faced a vicious cycle of selling products at a reduced rate to earn reviews and trying to boost his status with Amazon. Taking a loss was not uncommon, as he ended up giving away a sizable amount of product in the process.

Undaunted by his minor losses with FBA, Steve was ready to leave lackluster results behind and improve his income-generating skills. He switched gears and got serious about boosting his revenue in 2018. His first step on his new journey was listening to our podcasts. Then, he enrolled in our online ecommerce course to learn exactly what steps he needed to take to jumpstart his earnings. As Steve put his newly developed skills to work, his income began to rise.

A Pivotal Moment

Hitting the $10,000 per month mark was a pivotal moment for Steve. But along with that milestone came another critical realization: Steve had gained the ability to recognize problems quickly, diagnose them, and resolve them before they took hold and hurt his business.

For Steve, the process of resolving issues typically begins with a look at the lowest hanging fruit. He notes that sometimes addressing the smallest things can have a huge impact on results. Little tweaks, such as inserting the words “Free Shipping,” can make a huge difference in your conversions. Making sure your funnels are succinct is also important, as many of the highest converting funnels say a lot with only a few words.

If minor adjustments don’t alleviate the problem, then Steve suggests reviewing your funnel. See if there’s something in your copy that is confusing to the prospect. Funnels give you a powerful opportunity to use a lot of text. But it’s up to you to make sure they aren’t too wordy or confusing. More importantly, you have to create your copy with care to ensure that your ad, the copy, and your order form are all congruent, which are skills we emphasize in our online ecommerce course. 

The Importance of a Changed Mindset

Steve attributes his jump in income and his troubleshooting abilities to his commitment to changing his mindset and routine. Among other changes in his life, he also began making use of the extra time he had on the weekends. By devoting five or six hours on Saturday and Sunday to improving his funnels, Steve’s business really began to take off. Here are some other specific steps he takes to keep himself focused each day:

  • Start early by getting up at 5:30 every day.
  • Kick off the day with a healthy activity such as exercise.
  • After launching your day with two “wins” (waking up early and exercising), start with a manageable task.

Steve shares another confidence-inspiring tip: try putting yourself in an uncomfortable spot each day. For example, Steve would periodically go for a walk in the hot Arizona sun at 4:00 in the afternoon. When you survive this type of activity, your confidence builds, and you can face work-related challenges better.

Never Lose Focus

Just because you hit 50K per month doesn’t mean you are destined to enjoy that same level of success every month moving forward. Success is not automatic, and there are no shortcuts. Steve notes that if you want to continue to attain a large income and make dropshipping your full-time job, you must be willing to invest the time. 

Taking care of your body and personal life are also critical for maintaining your focus in the ecommerce industry. Steve notes that if you let one area of your life slip a lot, it’s going to impact your work and the other areas of your life. While a “slip” every now and then is not necessarily bad, you must be careful not to let the “slip” become a pattern. 

Data: The Key to Continued Success

While building a funnel and positioning products might be enjoyable, the actual launch can be a bit more intimidating. A quest for perfection can sometimes cloud efficiency and progress. In many cases, your initial creation may already be good enough. But you will never know unless you have data. With data, Steve notes, you can easily view your progress and make adjustments and improvements to your funnel. 

A Final Piece of Advice

Jumping into an industry full of established competitors can be intimidating. But you will make progress as long as you are committed to continued learning. Remembering that you CAN enter this industry and succeed is vital to making progress!

If you aren’t seeing success today and feel like there is no hope, Steve offers a simple recommendation: make sure you keep showing up every day. Also, remember that everyone has their own journey, and it takes time to get better. As you move forward on your journey, be sure to work on your income-producing skills. If you keep working hard every single day, you will look back in a year and see that you have made progress.

How My Ecommerce Empire Builders Student Earned $100,000 and Sold His Business

Do you want to see just how successful you can be as a dropshipper with well-utilized sales funnels? Here is another success story from an Ecommerce Empire Builders student to help showcase the effectiveness of these strategies. Meet Mike Filev, who began with a simple Shopify store and a viral ad video. He learned how to use sales funnels to his advantage, leading him to make $100,000 on a single product before successfully selling his dropshipping business.

Beginning With a Single Product and a Simple Store

Mike didn’t have a long, storied background in ecommerce. In fact, he planned on going into electrical engineering after college. However, his plans would soon change as he sought to earn more money and find his true passion. He didn’t care much for engineering, and the cost of living in downtown Toronto with his family was placing even more pressure on him to earn a better living.

Looking for a new outlet to channel his creativity, Mike eventually turned to ecommerce and quickly found some success selling one product early on: a seat belt for dogs. At the time, Mike merely had a Shopify store to help him sell his products, but he was able to bring a lot of attention to this one via an effective video ad. That ad was effective because it showed (using fake dogs, of course) what would happen if a pet owner neglected to use the seat belt in the event of an accident, and it helped increase sales. It also made Mike realize the potential that he could achieve with a more profitable strategy.

The Problem With Relying on Shopify Alone

Despite the popularity of his dog seat belt product and his ad, Mike found that he simply wasn’t able to make any one-click upsells on his product. It didn’t help that Shopify was compatible with a solitary app that took forever to install and setup. Upon discovering the power of sales funnels through a brief course in Shopify, Mike began to research their effectiveness. This led him to me, Peter Pru, and becoming an Ecommerce Empire Builders student.

Learning About the Value of Upsells and Sales Funnels as an Ecommerce Empire Builders Student

As he began to learn more about providing value to customers and inspiring more upsells, he decided to offer a harness that offered more neck support for dogs using his seat belts. Focusing on these harnesses, he started seeing an increase in sales and went from around zero percent net profit to around 20-30 percent consistently. Around that time, Mike saw his first thousand-dollar day of net profits. 

Mike saw the possibilities of using sales funnels and upsells to help boost sales significantly. But he was still somewhat disappointed with the overall performance of that single store. By the time he had made around $20,000 with the store, the cost of living was catching up to him, and he needed to find a more lucrative opportunity. Luckily, his first store had become a considerable success, and he had a valuable Instagram page for it that performed impressively — both of which could serve as assets for others.

From Selling Products to Selling Dropshipping Businesses

Mike wasn’t happy enough with how his first store was performing to keep it going. But he found that others were interested in acquiring these types of businesses. Understanding that the Shopify store he had been running had potential for someone else, he was able to sell it for $10,000, which got the ball rolling for him. From there, he sold his dog seat belt business as he looked for his next dropshipping opportunity.

What the Process Entailed

In the event someone came along who was interested in purchasing Mike’s dog seat belt store and sales funnels, Mike had recognized several assets going for him that would appeal to the investor.

First, Mike had set up an efficient landing page modeled after our own. It consisted of a header, image, and button that offered a free seat belt. This landing page had managed to achieve an opt-in rate of around 50-70 percent, depending on the traffic source. This translated to a total of around 47,000 email leads. All of the leads fell into the target market for that product. Also, some of the top brands out there like Petco are willing to buy a single lead for $1.60 or more. So Mike realized he was sitting on an ecommerce goldmine.

To help sell his business, Mike approached the effort in much the same way he would with selling products. He offered a bundle in an appealing package that would entice the buyer. He listed all the assets that his business had accumulated, including:

  • $100,000 in sales within a period of five or six months
  • 20 percent net profits plus expenses
  • A massive email list worth approximately $70,000 on its own

With this offer, Mike put the store up for sale on Flippa for $50,000. The sales price was based on a calculation of twice the net profits his business earned annually. Based on what he learned, he could have actually sold this business for much more. But that’s just part of the learning process when it comes to ecommerce experience.

Focusing on a Different Niche for Better Opportunities

While Mike experienced some success with the dog seat belt store, he recognized that this opportunity was too limited. He was selling to a highly specific niche of people, and the product would attract mostly impulse buys. After selling this business, he turned to a much more promising opportunity of selling weight loss products.

The demographic he was selling to at this point included women who were interested in losing weight. This was a much wider demographic than his previous niche. Another advantage of selling to this audience was the number of offers that you can utilize when selling weight loss products, especially through affiliate marketing.

To attract more leads, Mike also created a landing page in his sales funnels that asked for opt-ins via Facebook Messenger. He found that people were much more likely to choose this method over email because they didn’t worry about spam. 

(As a side note here, we definitely recommend that you try multiple lead generation outlets; test with channels like Facebook Messenger, and request an email in your offer. Then see which campaign performs better while doubling your assets in the process. Also, an email list is uniquely yours. Channels like Facebook Messenger still fall under the property of other companies, which can complicate the process of selling.)

Mike hasn’t decided to sell this store quite yet. But he is keeping the idea in mind as the business continues to grow. At the same time, Mike is experiencing more success and happiness as a result of his efforts. He’s living it up in Miami as he keeps his eye out for the next big opportunity.

Favour actually found out about our program when he stumbled across one of my Peter Pru — Ecommerce Empire Builders YouTube videos. Favour had been trying to make it on his own in the ecommerce industry, but unfortunately, he wasn’t having much luck. After seemingly getting nowhere with his efforts, Favour decided to take the plunge and become an official Ecommerce Empire Academy student. 

Favour’s experience is one I see with many of our Academy students. The ecommerce industry and business, in general, is a cycle of peaks and valleys. What discourages most people from continuing their pursuits with ecommerce is their inability to stick with it through those ups and downs. How Can You Handle Highs and Lows in Your Business?

Favour’s number one piece of advice for other Ecommerce Empire Academy students and beginner ecommerce entrepreneurs is to, “Believe in the process and journey.” Favour shared with me that he struggled at the beginning of his ecommerce endeavors because he did not have faith in his abilities or the overall ecommerce process. When Favour adopted a new positive mindset and started acting the part, his ads began performing better, and his funnel started to generate more revenue. 

Favour also noted that the Ecommerce Empire Academy helped him stop making emotionally-based decisions in his business. He used to go through a cycle of making ad sets and then killing them before he had a chance to collect data because he got too nervous and emotionally invested in the process. Making emotionally based decisions will almost always negatively impact your ecommerce endeavors. It’s easier said than done, but you have to separate your emotions from the business. Training yourself to make data-based decisions is your key to success in business. 

What Is Favour’s Recipe for Success?

During this Ecommerce Empire Academy review, Favour let us in on what his recipe for success has been in the ecommerce industry. After becoming an Academy student, Favour ditched the Shopify platform and opted to utilize Clickfunnels instead.

Favour started selling one product and came to understand that you have to focus on presenting customers with a unique offer, not necessarily a unique product. Every Ecommerce Empire Academy student begins to learn that it’s all about presenting the customers with an irresistible offer in your funnel. 

Mastering Facebook ads have been another key to Favour’s success in ecommerce. Favour’s strategy with his Facebook ads is to present quick, quality video ads to potential customers. He creates his ads to have a nice overlay photo on the video that grabs a prospective customer’s attention. Then he presents a quick video that highlights the product. 

After creating these quality video ads, Favour advises beginners to simply let the ads run their course and collect the data. You have to give Facebook enough time to optimize the algorithms so your ads can reach the prime audience. If you get emotionally invested or nervous and pull the ad too soon, all your data goes out the window. Even worse, you don’t get to learn how to make your ads more efficient. 

Create Rules So Data Drives Your Decisions

After Favour has a successful ad and collects enough data, he scales the ad to reach a bigger audience. Favour’s advice to beginners in the ad scaling process is to have a base foundation of rules for running ads. This can help you avoid shelling out more and more money on an ad that doesn’t yield results. This goes back to being data-driven rather than emotionally driven. 

In Favour’s rules, if he doesn’t get an ad click at $3 invested, he pulls the ad. If he doesn’t get an add to cart at $10 invested, he pulls the ad. Finally, if he doesn’t get a purchase at $20 invested, he pulls the ad set. 

This foundation of rules let Favour focus on the data rather than on his emotional ties to the ad set he has created. Understanding the ad process and running successful ad sets ultimately determines the success of all ecommerce entrepreneurs. 

What Should All eCommerce Beginners Know?

At the end of our interview, I asked Favour what his biggest piece of advice is for beginners breaking into the ecommerce industry. What Favour wants all aspiring ecommerce entrepreneurs to know is that “Mindset is key.” Favour had his own series of peaks and valleys he had to work through before he found success in ecommerce. However, joining the Ecommerce Empire Academy helped Favour to adopt the right mentality. It also equipped him with the tools needed to create a successful ecommerce business. 

Favour continually speaks his own success into existence through positive affirmations and encourages everyone to do the same. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will either. The only thing that will keep you from success is yourself. You can’t give up on yourself or the process if you want to be successful.
