Turn Any Dropshipping Shopify Store Into a Money Making Machine

Empire builders, have you been struggling to generate consistent profits through your ecommerce endeavors? If you have, this article is for you. Today, I will take you through the process of turning your struggling dropshipping Shopify store into a money-making machine. I asked on our Instagram page for followers to submit their Shopify stores for me to review. I got a ton of responses and chose to review the store whose name grabbed my attention.

Through my review of this store, you will learn what this ecommerce business is doing right, what they’re doing wrong, and how you can integrate their most useful elements into your ecommerce business today. Read on to learn how to transform your Shopify store into a money-making machine.

The Yoga Alien Review

The ecommerce store I choose to review is yogaalien.co. Right out of the gate, the domain name this ecommerce business chose is fantastic. It’s a name that grabs your attention and makes you do a double-take. However, I don’t like that the store chose a .co domain. My advice will always be to go with a .com domain. Even if it means picking a different domain name, always go with the .com as it provides more credibility to your ecommerce business.

Every Dropshipping Shopify Store Needs a Clear Niche

Another element that the Yoga Alien got right is having a niche. They sell yoga products. Yoga is their niche. In ecommerce and dropshipping ventures, it’s important to niche down and sell in a specific category or sell a specific product. Having a niche is the best way to sell to a direct group of people and to create a strong brand relationship with your customers. Before you start your ecommerce store, determine what your niche will be.

Areas for Improvement in This Dropshipping Shopify Store

Screengrab of Peter Pru analyzing YogaAlien's web copy

While I love the company name and that they have a clear niche, there are quite a few elements that I would change on Yoga Alien’s storefront. Every successful ecommerce store is supported by great copy, images, and amazing offers. Yoga Alien’s dropshipping Shopify store could use a revamp on some of these elements. The copy the Yoga Alien uses does not give the customer enough of a reason to invest in the brand or products of Yoga Alien. Remember, the copy on your store has to provide your customers value and assure them that your product or service will solve some sort of problem that they are facing. For a yoga store, the copy should play toward transforming a customer’s life through health, fitness, and mindfulness practices.

On the Yoga Alien storefront, I would also love to see more highlights of customers using the products, customer reviews, and better offers. If you want to generate more sales, make sure your store has high-quality images of your product being used, multiple customer reviews with photos, and an amazing offer that customers simply can’t get elsewhere.

Credibility Is Key — Make It the Foundation of Your Dropshipping Shopify Store

Screengrab of Peter Pru discussing the importance of digital products for niche products

Now that we’ve learned what the Yoga Alien store did right and what they could work on, what does this mean for your ecommerce business? Well, the most important element to keep in mind when turning your Shopify store into a money-making machine is credibility. When it comes to creating successful dropshipping businesses, credibility is key. Build your store’s credibility through these six elements:

1. Domain Name

First, always go with the .com domain as it instantly provides more credibility for your business. Your domain name should make sense, but it should also grab your customers’ attention. Yoga Alien is a domain name that makes customers do a double-take, but it also makes sense for the business because they sell yoga products.

2. Niche

A niche store will always garner more credibility compared to a general store. Always chose a niche category or product when creating your ecommerce business. A niche portrays your business as a specialized leader in a specific category.

3. Purposeful Copy

While this is often an overlooked element, your copy matters when creating a profitable ecommerce store. While the copy should be catchy and draw customers in, it should also be purposeful and add value for the customer.

4. Customer Support and Interactions

A profitable ecommerce store also relies on customer support. Reach out to your customer to have them send in their honest reviews of your product. Also, be willing to provide an incentive for your customers to send in their own photos and testimonials using your product. Customer support goes a long way in establishing credibility for your store.

5. High-Quality Images

Credibility also comes from having high-quality images on your store. Your store simply won’t be taken seriously without high-quality background images and high-quality images of your products.

6. Amazing Offers

The final aspect of creating a credible store is your offer. Every ecommerce business is not only competing against Amazon but also against each other. When going up against Amazon or other dropshippers, you can’t just compete on price. This is not a strategy with longevity. You need to create offers and bundles that customers can’t get elsewhere. A great way to separate yourself from the competition is through information products. Remember, you’re not just selling a product. You’re selling a solution. So you have to separate yourself from the rest of the pack.

The 4 Pillars of Ecommerce

Through consistency and execution, you will be able to build your store’s credibility and create a money-making ecommerce store. If you’re feeling stuck, just remember the four pillars of ecommerce:

  1. Find Your Niche
  2. Create a Compelling Offer
  3. Build Out Your Funnel
  4. Drive Traffic to the Funnel

Should You Invest in Zipify or Clickfunnels?

Empire builders, you’re looking to build your wealth through online sales. As you progress through this journey, there are a lot of learning curves you must work through. One typical learning curve is trying to find the best platform to make online sales. A recent ecommerce newbie asked me how I would choose to use either Zipify or Clickfunnels. Below I outline the pros and cons of both of these excellent ecommerce software programs. Read on to get the full scope on both the Clickfunnels and the Zipify software.

What Is Zipify?

Screen grab of a diagram of how Zipify works

Before we delve into the pros and cons of these two ecommerce software programs, we need to understand what they are and how they function. Zipify is an application that Shopify stores can use to create one-click upsells after a customer has purchased a product. Essentially, traffic is sent to a Shopify product page. After a customer reaches the checkout and puts in their billing information, the Zipify application allows for the creation of a one-click upsell. The best app for Shopify stores to invest in for one-click upsells is definitely Zipify.

For those of you with Shopify stores, the Zipify application is an easy way to maximize the amount a customer spends with you when they come to your store. Ultimately, this application helps to increase the average cart value in Shopify stores by offering easy one-click upsells to customers after they have already provided their credit card information. So, you might be wondering why anyone would use Clickfunnels if they could just add the Zipify application to their existing Shopify store.

Zipify is a great application to add to any Shopify store. But it lacks some of the top features that Clickfunnels can provide to all ecommerce entrepreneurs.

What Is Clickfunnels?

Screen grab of a diagram of how Clickfunnels works

Clickfunnels is an ecommerce software that looks very similar to the average Shopify store. However, the simple formula behind the sales funnels in Clickfunnels yields much better results compared to the average Shopify store. When using Clickfunnels, traffic is sent to a landing page or opt-in page. The purpose of this opt-in page is to collect the email of your customer before they make a purchase or leave the store. This email is an asset to your business as it allows you to send retargeting or promotion emails later on. After the email is collected in Clickfunnels, the customer then moves on to the checkout page. The checkout pages in Clickfunnels are a real game-changer for ecommerce entrepreneurs.

The checkout hacks offered on Clickfunnels just can’t be found anywhere else. Order bumps and quantity break discounts are just some of the features that can be used with this software. Using these types of checkout hacks is a great way to increase the average cart value in any funnel.

When comparing the Zipify and Clickfunnels upsells features, they are very similar overall. However, the one element that Clickfunnels offers and Zipify simply doesn’t is the one-click recurring revenue upsell. This one-click recurring upsell bills the customer on a monthly basis, usually for a subscription box similar to BarkBox or Dollar Shave Club. This feature really sets Clickfunnels apart from Zipify and all other competitors.

The Zipify vs. Clickfunnels Debate

So now that we know what the two software programs offer, what is the end consensus about choosing Zipify or Clickfunnels? Well, for the ecommerce newcomer, my suggestion would be to simply go with Clickfunnels. However, if you already have an established Shopify store, I would definitely invest in adding the Zipify application. It allows you to easily increase your average cart value for your store. If you have a Shopify store, I would invest in Clickfunnels, too, along with adding Zipify.

My recommendation for Shopify store owners would be to run all of your cold traffic to a Clickfunnels page in order to get that first sale. Through this process, you can collect emails from potential customers. This will allow you to build your email list and retarget these customers and send them offers to your Shopify store.

Again, if you are just starting out in the ecommerce industry, I would simply purchase Clickfunnels and forget about Shopify and Zipify. Clickfunnels gives you access to all of their services and features for a monthly price of $97. Getting both a Shopify store and the Zipify application can end up costing you an arm and a leg when it’s all said and done. Zipify charges $50 a month and takes 2-3% of the sales that it make you. On top of this, the average conversion rate on a Shopify store is much lower than the average funnel built through Clickfunnels.

Final Thoughts: Zipify or Clickfunnels?

At the end of the day, either Zipify or Clickfunnels would be great software for anyone in the ecommerce industry. However, before you invest in either, make sure to do your research. Determine which software program will better suit your current situation and your long-term goals. For the average individual, I would invest in Zipify if I already had a Shopify store. However, if you’re just starting out, opt for Clickfunnels. It will provide you with everything you need to start building your ecommerce empire today.

The Problem With Shopify Dropshipping: What You Need to Know

Welcome back, Empire Builders! If you’re thinking about getting started with Shopify dropshipping or you’re currently a Shopify dropshipper and aren’t getting the results you expected, keep reading. We’ll be going over the problem with Shopify dropshipping and why it’s difficult to be profitable on that platform. Then, we’ll discuss alternatives that can help you start making money right away.

Over the past few months, we’ve been creating a ton of dropshipping businesses and split-testing different approaches. Now that the results are in, we want to share what we’ve learned about starting your dropshipping business more profitably.

The Typical Problem With Shopify Dropshipping “Funnels”

The typical Shopify dropshipping “funnel” is where you’ll find the problem with Shopify dropshipping that stops so many sellers from making money. The word “funnel” is in quotes here because while it’s technically correct, it’s a very poor example of what a funnel should be. Let me show you what I mean.

This is what your typical Shopify dropshipping “funnel” looks like:

Ad→ Product Page→ Add to Cart→ Cart Page→ Checkout Page #1: Shipping Info→ Checkout Page #2: Billing Info→ Complete Purchase/Thank You Page

Each of those arrows is a step that customers must complete to make the purchase. They’re also opportunities for the customer to drop off and not come back to finish the transaction. That’s the most costly problem with Shopify dropshipping. Consider how many ads people see each day, how seldom they click them, and that, as humans, we have the attention span of goldfish. When we finally do get that click, we need to get to the money as quickly as possible before life gets in the way and customers don’t come back. The “funnel” shown above does not work!

Many will argue that influencers or popular companies make millions that way. You’re right — your competitors who have warm leads and dedicated followings are making money off their popularity, But that’s despite the flaws in their methods. You don’t have that luxury, and you have to compete with them. So that’s even more reason to optimize your funnel!

What Does a Good Sales Funnel Look Like?

We use ClickFunnels to build our sales funnels, but you can use different software if you like. We use ClickFunnels because they have all the tools we need to make our funnels as profitable as possible and have it up and running within the day.

Let’s compare ClickFunnels to Shopify. We’re going to say that the ad and the customers who click on it are identical. The funnel is the only thing that’s changed. Here’s the new funnel, done the right way:

Ad→ 2-Step Order Form→ Upsell→ Upsell→ Complete Purchase/Thank You Page

As you can see, the structure has a two-step order form right at the beginning. We get their name, email, billing, and shipping information right up front. That allows us to build our email list and follow up — whether they purchased or not. It also shows them our products and quantity break discounts, so they can choose what they want and how many they want. Then the rest of the steps are one-click upsells, usually including a subscription.

Real-Life Example of a Poorly Optimized Funnel

Screen grab highlighting multiple clicks as the problem with Shopify dropshipping

I saw an ad for a pet product and clicked it to see how many clicks it would take to complete a purchase. Here’s what I had to do:

Ad→ Add to Cart→ Checkout→ Continue to Shipping Info→ Continue to Payment→ Complete Purchase

It took six clicks! That’s three times as many as it should be! That gives customers more time to change their minds, get distracted, get frustrated, or any number of other possibilities.

Real-Life Example of a Well Optimized Funnel

Instead, you want to set it up so that when leads click on an ad, it sends them to a sales page that highlights one offer with features, benefits, and images. Right next to the offer on that same page is where the two-step order form should be. With this design, you get their information right away, and they turn into a lead on your email list. On most sites, menus and options are great. But for an ad landing page, you don’t want to give them a ton of places to click off and get distracted. It should be simple and to the point.

Most people – around 90% – won’t buy the first time they end up on your site. They’ll want more information and to get to know you better first. When you get the contact information quickly, you have what you need to make that happen. Growing your email list and using email marketing is like printing money. You already have the names. All you have to do is reach out to them.

Good Sales Funnels Solve the Problem With Shopify Dropshipping

Screen grab of a Shopify sales funnel diagram

The value of this funnel is in ensuring that more qualified leads make it to your order form. If they put in their billing and shipping information, they’re more likely to buy. That’s why these funnels convert about 10%, while the Shopify ones only convert 1.33%. That’s nearly ten times more by merely changing your funnel.

On the second page of the order form, they can select their product. I always provide multiple quantity break discounts to encourage them to buy for a better deal. Then I have what’s called an order bump. That’s the pre-purchase upsell, much like the candy aisle at grocery store checkouts. You see it, and it’s convenient and tempting, so you just toss it in while you’re already there.

Make sure your order bump is a no-brainer item that pairs with your original offer. This will increase your average order value (AOV). Then the next clicks take you to one-click upsells before completing the order. I like having a subscription upsell in there to let them sign up for monthly orders. With this option, you can get consistent sales every month without additional work.

Final Thoughts About the Problem With Shopify Dropshipping

Dropshipper building a more convenient sales funnel

I see many people mistakenly assuming that if they aren’t making big profits, the product must be bad. Usually, the product itself is fine. It’s the sales strategy that needs work. Another mistake I see is a focus on lowering their cost-per-purchase. Ad spend isn’t going down — it’s just not. Constantly trying to reduce it creates inconsistencies that cost you more money.

Instead, flip the issue. While your competition tries to lower costs, focus on increasing your AOV instead so you can afford better ads to bring in more leads and still make higher profits. If you use optimized funnels with the right upsells and subscriptions paired with list-building and simple automated email marketing, you can succeed. It’s not unusual to see an average cart value of over $30-$40 on a FREE+Shipping offer with the right funnel and upsells.

How to Automate Order Fulfillment in Clickfunnels and AliExpress

You may already be making money through Clickfunnels sales funnels. But you want to automate the order fulfillment process. If you’re already branding and sourcing your own products and looking to easily fulfill your orders through Clickfunnels and AliExpress, there are a few solutions that can help get the job done right. Keep reading to learn how to automate order fulfillment.

Use Dropton to Automate Order Fulfillment

Recently, Dropton released easy-to-use software that can help with order fulfillment. The great thing about Dropton is that it can serve as your order hub with plenty of features. A couple of one-click functions you can handle with Dropton include:

  • Performing all tracking
  • Transferring orders from Clickfunnels to Dropton

Ultimately, the Dropton software can help you avoid a lot of the pains of order fulfillment. While we may have recommended a different kind of software to use for order fulfillment in the past, other software with similar functions tend to take a commission off of sales. Dropton doesn’t. That alone makes Dropton a good option as you’re deciding how to automate Clickfunnels.

Keep in mind that not everything done in Dropton is automated. You will need to perform some manual tasks. But they mainly entail clicking a button to fulfill orders, followed by clicking another button to send tracking information. All of this should take no longer than five minutes.

Hire an Experienced VA Through FreeUp for Some Assistance

If you want to further automate the order fulfillment process with Clickfunnels and AliExpress, you can do so by hiring a virtual assistant, or a VA. With the help of a VA, you can have some tasks outsourced so that you can focus on more important matters.

FreeUp is a great source for a reliable VA. It has pre-vetted Ecommerce freelancers who are familiar with order fulfillment and who can give you the help you need at a price you can afford. Simply let FreeUp know what skills you’re looking for. The site will return results featuring individuals who are pre-vetted to ensure they have the expertise they claim.

Why FreeUp?

screengrab of FreeUp

Compare this to, say, Fiverr or Upwork, where anyone can claim to have a level of expertise and experience without the credentials to back them up. You’re likely to find plenty of professionals with experience in dropshipping on FreeUp.

Working with a VA can be a simple process. For example, you can have Clickfunnels export a Google Sheet with your orders and have your VA manage all the orders. You can also have the VA send that sheet as a bulk CSV file to your company’s supplier to handle all orders.

With a VA behind you to automate your order fulfillment process, you can spend more time on growing your dropshipping business. That includes more creative tasks such as focusing on the sales funnel, increasing conversions, and creating offers. These tasks are more important than worrying about order fulfillment.

However, you may not need to hire a VA. You may be able to work with someone else or spend the minimal amount of time needed to manage fulfillment through Clickfunnels on your own. Regardless, it’s always a good idea to have a VA in mind as a possible resource if things get too hectic for you to manage by yourself. With the right VA, you can help make sure all order fulfillment takes place consistently without worrying about other aspects of your business going overlooked.

Pro Tip:

Before you hire help, get used to performing some of these tasks on your own so that you know what the process entails.

Warning: Avoid Using Clickfunnels for Shopify Integration

screengrab of AppTrends

Do you rely on Shopify for order management, even if you don’t sell through Shopify? If so, then it’s best to stay away from Clickfunnels’s Shopify integration. We have experienced many issues with Clickfunnels when it came to using it in conjunction with Shopify order fulfillment. (But that may change with future updates to the Clickfunnels platform.)

Instead, we recommend using AppTrends so you can use Shopify for backend order management. Using AppTrends, you can connect Clickfunnels to your Shopify store. It works much more dependably than Clickfunnels’s current native integration. Once you use AppTrends to connect Clickfunnels and Shopify, you can then take advantage of all the Shopify apps available. If you want to, you can further automate the process with the help of a personal VA.

Use ShipStation for Sourcing Your Product

warehouses and inventory centers connecting with dropshippers for seamless order fulfillment

If you want to begin sourcing your product into your own fulfillment houses or have your current manufacturer dropship for you, we recommend using ShipStation. This platform can help manage email delivery and other tasks that something like Dropton would handle.

Now, it’s important to remember that your supplier or manufacturer might use entirely different platforms than ShipStation. They may not want to have to learn how to use this platform. For example, if your supplier relies on Shopify, you may have to accommodate this. However,  ShipStation can be ideal if you’re looking for additional ways to automate your processes or looking for new suppliers.

If you try out these platforms and steps, you can more effectively automate order fulfillment in Clickfunnels and AliExpress. By automating things as much as possible, you’ll be able to focus on what really matters when growing your business. Even better, you avoid some of the headache that you might otherwise experience with order management.

Clickfunnels or Shopify: Should You Build a Sales Funnel or a Store in 2020?

If you own a dropshipping business, every detail matters. You may be wondering whether it’s best to use Clickfunnels or Shopify. In other words, you’re contemplating whether to build a sales funnel or build a whole store. You might even be tempted to try both. But don’t overcomplicate your ecommerce empire — I recommend the sales funnel. Let’s discuss why.

Don’t Build an Online Store with Too Many Options

What’s one of the problems with relying on stores like Shopify alone? It’s difficult to make a profit on cold traffic from basic ad campaigns. For example, you might be selling a pet product and lure people to your store with ads. When people get onto your landing page, they’re likely to encounter multiple sizing and color options for the product. The problem with offering too many options without any instructive advice on what to get is that the customer may have too many questions. Remember, confused customers never buy.

screen grab of a confusing online store with too many shopping options

Take our pet product example again. It could be a chew toy that’s available in small or large sizes, but the customer may consider one size to be too inconvenient to carry with them to the dog park. At the same time, the other is possibly too small for larger dogs. Giving customers too much of a headache around the buying decision can lead them to simply turn away from your store

As the owner of a Shopify store, you may see this activity in the form of plenty of “at the cart” statuses that end right there. We’ll discuss this more later.

Another potential issue is that prospects may see too many suggested products that don’t seem relevant to the product they’re currently viewing. That confusion alone can lead to mistrust — and, again, they’ll leave your store without making a purchase.

The key is narrowing down your focus on specific products and mastering that category. Whether you prefer Clickfunnels or Shopify, focus is essential.

What Should You Do Instead? Choose a Single Profitable Niche

A big mistake that many Shopify store owners make is adding too many products to their store. Then the store doesn’t seem to have a clear focus and merely exists to generate sales for random products. It’s best to spend your energy on a particular niche. Start learning the ins and outs of it, and focus on creating offers that fit within that niche. You can even focus on selling just a single product for your whole business (which I dive into here).

Shopping Carts Can Let Customers Leave Your Store

frustrated customer who is shopping at a poorly designed online store

As we mentioned, a general store with products offering too many options could lead many people to add products to their cart. But the process of actually making a purchase could also be too daunting.

For instance, customers might have to choose specific options for a product before even adding it to their cart. That’s a barrier. Even once they finally click that button and move on to the next screen, they land on the cart page. Many people don’t like cart pages, and that means they reduce the odds of people making a purchase through cold traffic.

At the cart page, the customer may begin to experience what’s known as buyer’s remorse. In the process, they may regret their decision when faced with the total cost. Maybe they’ll remove multiple items from the cart. Maybe they’ll decide to leave altogether. This reason alone is why the average Shopify store has a conversion rate of under two percent. When you’re choosing between Clickfunnels or Shopify, Shopify is a little underwhelming for sellers and overwhelming for buyers.

Even if the customer gets past the cart page, they’re then faced with a third page to complete the checkout process. Checking out also involves entering shipping and billing information, resulting in more unnecessary clicks that draw out the buying process. By that point, there is a myriad of holes in the funnel that makes it clear why so many people leave the store without buying.

While Shopify can still help you earn the profits you want, the key is selling smart. Keep in mind that many people who visit your store are just visiting you for the first time. They don’t know if they can trust the merchant or their products at this point, which can give them some doubts that lead them to the door without spending a dollar.

Why You Need an Effective Sales Funnel in Place

For cold traffic, you should always have a sales funnel that helps improve conversion with a proven process. Clickfunnels can help.

What first happens with a sales funnel for cold traffic is this:

When a person clicks on your ad, he or she will be redirected to what you may refer to as a squeeze page. This is also called a landing page or a sales page. The point of these pages is to highlight one particular product and show why your product is worth buying. You may include benefits, features, testimonials, reviews, and other information that convinces the customer that the product is right for them before simply leading them to your store.

After the customer has had a chance to review the page and the product it’s advertising, you can ask them to simply provide their email address to begin buying the product. At this point, in lieu of a traditional checkout page, you would lead the customer to an order form that’s simple and to the point. Without all the complexities of a general Shopify cart and that opportunity to experience buyer’s remorse, the customer will be more engaged and be more likely to make a purchase.

An effective sales page boosts the perceived value of your product among your audience. You’ll have a much better chance of increasing sales for that product.

Our “1, 2, 4, 6, 8” Philosophy

screen grab of an order form to highlight the choice between Clickfunnels or Shopify

There’s even a great strategy to increase sales for a product in the sales funnel through your order form/ It’s what we call the “1, 2, 4, 6, 8.” This entails listing various quantities of the product in a dropdown going from one to eight by an increment of two, which highlights how much they can save if they order multiple quantities of a product at once. Showing a person how to get the best value is more likely to get them to buy more of your product in a single sale. In turn, this can give you more money to spend on ads for that product and expand your reach through reinvestment in your business.

You can further boost sales by leading customers to an upsell page after the initial purchase with a discount. This can encourage people to buy even more with the understanding that they’ll continue to save. If you can show the value of your products and the purchase, you can include as many upsells as you want without worrying about the customer simply leaving — we recommend using around three to four, but feel free to experiment.

Using Both Clickfunnels and Shopify

In the end, it’s best to have a Clickfunnels sales funnel at the front end of the sales process. By using a sales funnel, you can build a list of nonbuyers and prospective customers. Then, you can sell them premium versions of your products. At the same time, you could have a simple niche-specific Shopify store that you use to sell a premium-priced product to existing customers or ones who are more likely to buy. This is generally a better strategy than relying on sales through cold traffic.

Take all of these aspects into consideration when choosing between Clickfunnels or Shopify.
