Success Story: How to Sell a Course and Make $1.5 Million

Welcome back, empire builders. Today, we have a long overdue interview with Felix from Giant Lifestyle. He’s been a part of our community in the past, and we haven’t talked to him since he was in our Inner Circle community years ago. Since then, he’s turned a $1,000 program of ours into well over a million dollars, and he knows all about how to sell a course profitably.

He’s here to show you how to take the same information we have here and use it to share your own information products. Felix has done this tremendously well — and thank you for jumping on here with us.

Back to the Beginning

For about ten years, Felix has been a full-time entrepreneur. But first, establishing a Giant Lifestyle YouTube channel was a labor of love. He wasn’t trying to make money out of it. He just enjoyed doing it. It was getting him by, but it just wasn’t hitting that next level. Then, he learned how to pitch his information products.

Eventually, Felix attracted enough interest in his online business, flipping diabetic testing supplies, and heeded a viewer’s encouragement to formally share his knowledge. We helped him learn how to package his offline skill set into a high-dollar course, and things started taking off. Felix went from making $5–10,000 per month to 30, 60, 90… and then he started hitting six-figure months.

“My life completely changed.”

How to Sell a Course: Stick With Your Foundational Idea

Over 30 million people in America have diabetes, and they often wind up with a surplus of supplies. Felix glimpsed the profit potential of buying and selling diabetic test strips from a former colleague, though he was unwilling to show Felix how it was done. Felix persisted, reverse-engineering the process on his own and then sharing it with eager students.

It’s interesting how the obstacle he experienced with his former business partner corresponds exactly with the niche service he himself went on to conquer.

“I remember I was 20 or 21 when I made my first six figures…, providing a great service.”

As fast as it came, he needed better money management to keep it sustainable.

It’s exactly where I came from when I started Ecommerce Empire Builders on YouTube. I was just looking for a place to upload tutorial videos from a mastermind group I was in, where no one understood how funnels work — and to this day, I tell people, just go look at those videos.

It’s about more than selling courses. It’s about being an expert at what you do. This is how Felix was able to package his experience and strategies into a lucrative information product. Things that seemed like common sense to him were exactly what others needed to hear to achieve the same success.

You’ve Already Developed Your Pillar Content — Now Publish It

Whatever you’ve already gone through, the challenges you’ve overcome, we’re telling you: START A CHANNEL. That’s your pillar content, where all the other channels (Instagram, etc.) pull from — and it’s still a big, blue, wide-open ocean.

You don’t even need to generate subscribers at a massive scale to start making money. Felix, I’m sure you didn’t have your 50,000 subscribers back then, right?

“I had like 2,000. I just showed [my friend] how to do it in a partnership deal, and he just crossed 2,000 subs — and he’s making $2,000 a week.”

Felix is improving his own life and the lives of others by sharing his expertise on how to sell a course and other content.

“If you’ve got a skillset or an expertise in something, not only can you make a lot of money, but you could change a lot of lives. I’ve got students who make $10, $20, $30,000 a month from the information I gave them. It’s very fulfilling.”

Multiple Streams of Income

This is where multiple sources of income start happening. Your pillar idea/content sets you up for:

All along, you’re continually honing your original processes to a razor-sharp edge as you teach them.

“It’s still good to have some offline businesses — but with the power of the internet, all I need, really, is this laptop I’m talking to you on right now, an internet connection, cameras, and other equipment.”

It’s all about growing your channel/brand, deciding how to sell a course for continual success, and creating different experiences.

“I just want to make decent money, travel, and live life at the same time.”

Rhythms and Turning Points

This was when I asked Felix how he manages to travel with his most productive routines. Batching content whenever possible gets him through travel spurts, and he’s honest with himself about productivity. Establishing a temporary home base for a month or two becomes all the more valuable. Once it becomes exhausting, you can sign three-month leases between periods of jumping around.

Felix had this to say on the factors that initially brought his brand to the tipping point:

“I do four things. I have:

  1. Good titles
  2. Thumbnails
  3. Tags/descriptions
  4. Consistent content

If you can get a video to go viral… keep doubling down on it. Whatever… piece of content works, keep making content on that content.”

What about paid advertising as part of how to sell a course?

“I had some success, and then Facebook just shut my ad account down. My YouTube organic was so strong that there were times where, working maybe… 20 hours a month, it was almost completely automated. I just never could get into ads… I just stick to organic.”

Peaks and Plateaus

He was pulling up to $70,000 a month doing almost nothing. But he noted that he suspects ads would get him to the next level. It’s true, and it takes a lot of money and effort — especially at first, as you discover which messaging works.

Paid campaigns still need a core of organic content. It makes people want to pick you compared to people who only have content from five years ago. If you do have that consistency, mixing in paid advertising is a huge credibility boost. Even basic retargeting ads for your video audience could be just $10 a day.

Felix brought up the question of whether paid ads stifle your organic reach. For our channel, we built a second channel for running ads to avoid these potential issues.

Other Factors to Felix’s Success

In our 30-minute discussion about how to sell a course, Felix and I hit on many other elements that proved invaluable to big long-term profits.

  • Felix takes a one-man army approach, but he has a virtual assistant and continually supports his affiliate base. This creates a wider profit margin, and it’s when my own profit margins were largest (before radical scaling forced me to accept a slimmer margin).
  • Flexible thinking and confidence that “there’s so much going around for everybody… you could get started with any niche, any business, at any time” matter.
  • We’ve also found that the market is veritably infinite. There’s no need to stress about others taking away your hard-won niche. Your message, personality, and brand will attract or create a whole new niche for yourself.
  • Diligence matters. He made 100s of videos before they made him a ton of money. With every video you make, even with just a few consistent views, you’re building credibility.
  • With Ecommerce Empire Builders, I honestly feel conversions were stronger when I had very few subscribers. Those were the highest-quality views from the most determined viewers.
  • Accept the complexities behind creating your pillar content, even when it seems like just “one simple thing.” Again, Felix was diligent, operating with commitment and consistency.

It’s All About Mindset and Consistency

To set your own schedule and work in a field with limitless profit potential, you just have to get past that barrier to feeling comfortable with being uncomfortable. Even when you’re getting just 20 or 30 views with something, you still need to do it every single day. That’s just part of how to sell a course. This requires trust in yourself. I asked Felix how he got past any initial self-doubt, wondering, “What am I doing? Is this a waste of time?”

His was a project of passion first and foremost, and he wasn’t totally dependent on its success. Slow initial profits didn’t even get to him, but the low numbers of subscribers did. With humility, his self-talk revolved around the conviction that if others had cracked the code, he could do it, too. He reiterated the importance of:

  1. Good titles
  2. Good thumbnails
  3. Strong tags
  4. Consistent content

He also added SEO to that list.

“If there’s other people doing it, anybody could be like me, anybody could be like you; they just don’t know what they don’t know. And if they’re able to obtain that information, it could literally change overnight.”

We won’t be surprised if we talk again in another four years and see each other at even new heights. The power of the internet has been so impactful for both of us that we can live anywhere and take care of our loved ones.

Felix’s Prime Takeaway About How to Sell a Course and Other Information

With so much content about making money online out there, I wanted Felix to leave us with the one core piece of advice he hopes new online business owners remember:

“Take action. I started my entrepreneur journey — I read Rich Dad, Poor Dad — in 2013, and now it’s 2022. Don’t let the people on the internet with the watches, and the cars, and the success, and the mansions fool you… Just keep going, and don’t quit. You really only fail when you quit.”

“If you quit, you already know what you’re going to get… That’s why I try to stay humble because as high as you go up, in a snap of a finger, you could fall and lose everything. If you’re at the bottom, the only place you can go is up — but you can’t go anywhere if you stop taking action.”

You can’t just go back to what you were doing when you hit setbacks, and you only need one big win to really put you up on a plateau, to see what’s possible, and to permanently motivate you.

“If you miss 100 shots, the next time you go back and take another 100 shots, I bet you won’t miss all of them.”

We hope our audience doesn’t take this lightly. Responsibility levels rise even, or especially when you start making retirement money. One of the Ecommerce Empire Builders team members, Jordan, has a saying, “New level, new devil.” When you want to reap the reward, you have to be willing to face new sets of problems. The secret to handling them is, as Felix said, “Just keep going, and don’t quit.”

How to Use These Free Digital Product Ideas for Easy Upsells

Welcome back, Empire Builders! If you’ve seen almost any of my videos or other blog posts, then you know that I think selling digital products is one of the best ways to make money online. A question I get a lot is how to find digital products to sell. So, today we’ll be going over where to get inspiration to discover hundreds of digital product ideas almost instantly. Let’s jump right in.

The Benefit of Digital Products

The reason selling digital information products online is such a great way to make money is that after the first sale, it’s 100% profit. Then you can sell it hundreds or thousands of times without having to invest time or money in each copy. I always tell my clients that the best way to build a successful business is to have multiple revenue streams. Selling digital products is one of the fastest, easiest, and most profitable ways to make money online.   

Where to Do Digital Product Research

Etsy is a great place to get endless ideas for the best digital products. There are hundreds upon hundreds of people selling digital products on Etsy right now and making a killing! So there’s no reason you can’t do the same.

How to Use Etsy for Digital Product Research

Go to Etsy and find your niche in their category list. Most niches fall into a subset of one of these categories. However, if you can’t find one that quite fits your niche, just type “digital + [your niche]” into the search bar. If you sell to a particular audience, like moms, you can also search for things like “digital mom gifts” or “digital gifts for mom,” or even “digital gifts for her.”

Many people see the results and think, “Who would buy that?” While it may not make sense to you, look at the number of sales listed. The first product I found for “digital mom gifts” is a customizable and printable drawing of a mom and a dog sitting on a dock. All you can see is their backs and the water, yet it has sold over 27,000 copies at almost $16 each.

Remember: that’s pure profit. If something like this has so many sales, think of how well a product tailored to your niche can do. Imagine if you make it easy for customers to add to their order at checkout and it complements what they’re already buying, like creating an eBook on how to use a product and making that your order bump. It can be wildly successful. It’s incredibly easy to make money online today.

Many people working full-time see this and understandably think that, while passive income would be great, they don’t have the time to make custom prints or deal with emails. However, you don’t have to. You can hire a virtual assistant to do all that or sell one standard product instead of custom and automate the emails. Anyone can make it work.

Tailor Custom Digital Products to Your Niche

Selling custom art on Etsy is much easier than most people think. I always hear, “I’m not an artist. I don’t know anything about graphic design or high-end editing software. How could I sell custom digital art?” The truth is you really don’t have to be. Custom digital art can be completely formulaic. Sites like Canva let you edit photos, easily add graphics, and create templates or use one of theirs.   

Golf

Let’s say you sell physical products in the golf niche. Offer a commemorative photo for people who got a hole-in-one. They’ll send their picture, and then you can just add something simple like the date and the words “Hole-in-One.”

Fishing

If you know people who love to fish, then you know they all have a story of when they caught a fish “this big!” and they all have a photo. Customize their photos with the date they caught it, the weight, measurements, and maybe even a quote if they want. It’s that simple.

Other Examples for Digital Product Ideas

Get in your customers’ heads. Imagine their goals and what they care about. Maybe they’d like a poem about their hobby. You can commission one from a writer on Fiverr. Then add some relevant graphics like golf balls, fish, or yarn, whatever makes sense in your niche, and sell it as printable wall art.  

Mining for Inspiration

I have a very simple but effective trick for finding blog topics that works for this, too. Typing the word “digital: into the Etsy search bar brings up tons of suggestions like digital downloads and digital prints. Use this auto-suggest function to your advantage — type in “Digital A” then “Digital B,” and so on. You can find dozens of digital product ideas per letter.

For example, “Digital C” gets you digital coloring books. This is perfect for anyone in the arts and crafts or kids’ niche. “Digital D” brings up digital daily planners. You could create your own, get a template and add graphics, hire someone to make it, or just buy a premade PLR. We have plenty of step-by-step content explaining how to find PLRs and then make great digital products.

Think Outside the Box for More Digital Product Ideas

I’m not going to tell you to follow the exact steps I used to build my business. I don’t tell you what niche to pick or what to sell. Yes, you can have us build a business for you to get you started. But eventually, you’ll be the one running that business. That’s why I teach this way.

For example, to make a product like digital planners work for the fishing niche, look at the concept of planners through the lens of fishing. Fishing enthusiasts might want to keep a log of their fishing trips. So you can provide space for things like:

  • Date and time
  • Location
  • The weather
  • Bait and lure used
  • How well they worked
  • Number of fish caught
  • Notes

You could even sell a fishing calendar with relevant dates like the beginning and end of fishing season instead of holidays. Alternatively, have a tips section listing the best time of year, locations, bait, and conditions to catch specific kinds of fish. The possibilities for digital product ideas are endless.

There’s an old saying that goes, “Time is money.” It’s absolutely true. When you’re running a business, time is your most precious commodity. Preserving it frees you up to focus your energy elsewhere. Being able to make money is great, but being able to make it quickly is even better and will help you stand out from the pack. In this article, we’ll discuss how to create digital products quickly — and three PLR websites that can help you make them.

First, let’s look at the definition of private label rights (PLR). These are products created by someone else that you can purchase the rights to. On PLR websites, you can purchase a batch of articles with different word counts for a nominal fee and then have the private label rights to publish or use that content in any way you see fit. 

You own the material once you pay for it. 

Once you have it, you can post the articles to your blog or website. You can give them away for free. It’s up to you. Once you spend the money, it’s your call as to how you use the resources

It’s not illegal, and you’re not infringing on anyone’s rights. As long as you buy the rights to the products, you can do whatever you want with them. That includes selling them as-is or making modifications to meet your audience’s needs better. 

You can:

  • Use it as an upsell on an existing purchase.
  • Give it away as a way to build your email list. 
  • Insert your name or business as the author. 

There’s no shortage of options when it comes to PLR. So, with that in mind, here are three vetted PLR websites that can help you make money fast. 

The PLR Store

The PLR Store is one of my favorite go-to spots for PLR content. Whatever your niche might be, there’s likely content here for you to use. It has a simple interface and is fairly easy to navigate, enabling you to find content on your chosen subject area. 

(Quick aside: many PLRs come as “Plain Jane” documents. This provides you with an opportunity to spruce them up a bit, formatting them or adding book covers. This will make it more appealing to your customers. You don’t want to send your customers a boring text document. You want to give them something visually captivating that they’ll enjoy reading.) 

BuyQualityPLR.com

BuyQualityPLR isn’t bad, even though the website looks… Well, there’s no other way to say it. It looks terrible. It uses a clunky, old-school WordPress theme. But despite the lack of a compelling design, this site is well-organized. 

The site presents you with a variety of niches to choose from, making it easy to locate the subject or topic you’re most interested in. 

Once you choose a topic, you’ll then get to see all the PLR content available within that subject area. What’s cool about this is that many ebooks come with add-ons like video training and tutorials. The drawback is that these are a little more expensive. But that means if you edit it correctly, you can charge more for it. 

You’re spending a little more than you would with a simple ebook, but that increases the value you offer your potential customer. That means they’re going to be willing to pay more and will be more impressed with what you’re offering. 

Look at an example of an ebook that costs $37 with video training included. You can spend a little time editing the ebook and packaging the two as a comprehensive package. After you’ve made your initial $37 investment back, everything else you make off of it is pure profit. 

Alternatively, you can add the content as an upsell to an existing offer. These things will help the profitability of your business. You buy them once; you don’t have to pay for them every single time. 

Many of the ebooks are nicely edited when you receive them, or they come with really well-made videos. In these cases, you won’t have to do much work on the front end. You’ll get the material ready to sell, which makes the venture even more profitable for you.

PLR Products is a massive PLR site with a ton of different content. This one is nice because it has the usual PLR products on topics like marketing, but it includes other topics such as pets or home and garden. 

Many people may not think they don’t have space for information products in their niche. The truth is, you’re likely just not looking hard enough. With sites like PLR Products, you can research content you can appropriate for your website or online marketing presence. 

Think of PLR products as a tool to help you make money fast. You can literally get started in under 25 minutes.

How to Make $15,000 in 30 Days Selling Digital Products

Millions of people toil away every day in an office bathed in fluorescent lights listening to the droning directives of a boss. They do so because they feel that they need to earn a paycheck to sustain their way of living. But they wrongly believe that the only way to do so is to work in a traditional clock-punching kind of job. I am here to tell you that is not the case. Anyone can make far more money than they ever have each month by selling digital products that make a difference in people’s lives. 

Look for a Market That Appeals to Your Interests

In order to sell anything, it is necessary to have a willing and eager market to sell to. If the demand is not there, then the sales will never materialize. So the first step that anyone looking to sell digital products needs to take is to find their niche market. Discovering your niche is actually less about looking outwardly into the public marketplace and more about looking inward. What are your interests and hobbies? How might you use those interests and hobbies to sell to a broad cohort of people? 

Entrepreneur.com explains that finding your own passions is a necessity for strong sales because you are most likely to stay motivated when the product you are selling is something you are genuinely interested in yourself: 

This doesn’t mean that you need to find a perfect fit. If you are passionate about some aspect of running the business, you will stick with it. If you don’t care about the topic, you may not be able to find the drive within to persevere.

It is easy to think that you won’t lose the fire in your belly for starting up a business right now. But you really will if you don’t take the time to work on something that is truthfully a passion of yours. 

Explore What People Are Already Buying in Your Preferred Niches

We have countless tools at our disposal to see what kind of products the public is purchasing. Still, it is not necessary to get too creative to find what we are looking for. Simple searches on popular eCommerce websites like Amazon are all that is necessary to get a peek into what people are purchasing in any niche category. Just search that niche and see what kind of products are the top sellers for that category. 

This type of research is useful because it gives you true insights into the level of demand in any given category. It is meant as a guide for understanding what types of products you may be able to sell. It is not meant as a shortcut to copy the products that already exist. Doing so will cut away at your credibility. It can even cause you legal issues in the most extreme of circumstances. 

Enjoy Low to No Overhead With Digital Products

A major advantage to selling digital products is the cost. There are little to no overhead costs associated with selling digital products. The capital invested in digital products all comes from the labor that one puts in to create the digital product in the first place or purchase PLR resources. The time, skill, and effort that one puts into creating a digital product is the only major cost associated with their product. Let’s look at an eBook or online course as an example of how to bring this creation into reality: 

Time

You generally have to sink some amount of time into creating something brand new from scratch. The exact amount of time involved depends on the complexity of the digital product. More complex or lengthy digital products likely provide greater value than simple or short ones. So more complex products can likely demand a higher purchase price. 

Expertise/Knowledge

No consumer wants to purchase a product about how to get physically fit from someone who is not physically fit themselves. That product would lack authenticity and real value to the consumer and would not sell well. Therefore, it is imperative that all digital content creators make products that they have a special set of knowledge or experience about in order to make those products as highly valuable to their customers as possible. 

Marketing

Selling a digital product may necessitate some marketing to get the word out about the existence of your product, particularly in the beginning. It might be necessary to spend a little money advertising across various platforms to let people know that you have something worth taking a look at.

These are the three primary expenses that one might run into when creating and selling digital products. As you can see, there is little money involved (aside from the marketing expenses), but there are plenty of other costs that must be managed to create something truly great. That said, once the finished product is ready for market, the sales that it generates are as close to pure profit as you will ever see.  

Branching Your Digital Sales Into Physical Products or Affiliate Sales

Digital sales are a great place to start as they do require so little startup capital. That is very appealing to people just starting out because you don’t need a lot of money to start. That said, it is important not to box yourself in too tightly. Don’t think that you can only do digital sales going forward. In reality, digital sales should be a bridge to other streams of revenue in the future. You will very likely find yourself interested in making physical sales of products within the same industry. The opportunities are nearly limitless once you begin. 

Affiliate sales are another stream of revenue that online entrepreneurs can add to their toolbox. Those who create a popular website, eBook, online course, or other online product may decide to sell affiliate ad space to other companies. You can do this to grow your revenue even more. It helps to add yet another source of revenue and layer of security to your income. 

Now is the time to change the course of your financial future by selling digital products. You can bring in more money in a month than you do in several months right now. First Things First

Before we get started, it’s important to know that you can’t just sell digital products somewhere like Shopify. You need a digital info product sales funnel. Remember, while they have a very high profit margin because you create digital products once and sell them over and over, they’re also harder to sell. They’re intangible, so you need to be great at marketing, showcasing perceived value, and (most importantly) creating quality digital products that provide real value.

Try these strategies:

1. Front-End Offers on Your Digital Info Product Sales Funnel

The front-end product is the original offer that customers click to buy before upsells or order bumps. That’s the product you advertise to draw people in. To successfully sell information products, especially as the front-end offer, you absolutely must showcase them properly to convey a high perceived value.

Use an offer stack image to showcase everything your digital product offer includes. You want to stack the image with photos of everything in your offer so buyers will think, “Wow! I’m getting so much for my money!” An offer stack image illustrates that it’s a bundle and not one product, increasing the perceived value. Next, below your two-step order form, show them everything they’ll get. Break it up into multiple offer stacks. Showcase each element with a clear and compelling description and high-quality offer stack image. That’s why you should always bundle information products. It might cost a bit more time and money initially, but after that, it’s pure profit.

Sell high-quality, high-value information product bundles for a great price to make them irresistible. Create an offer that people can’t say no to because the deal is too good to pass up. Selling one digital product alone takes less time and money but doesn’t convert nearly as well because it can’t provide as much value.

2. Order Bump

The second strategy is using digital product order bumps. Remember that two-step order form? Once customers opt in by providing their shipping information, they’re pre-qualified and much more likely to buy. The more yeses you get, the more yeses they’ll give. So, on the next page, you’ll have your order bump (basically a pre-purchase upsell) that they can add to their order with one click.   

Keep it simple. Ours is just a few sentences with no images, and it converts at 25%. Also, make sure the order bump is related to the front-end offer, like selling dog training toys with a dog training eBook bundle. This can increase your average order value and profit margins while decreasing overall ad spend.

3. Upsells

The third option for your digital info product sales funnel is using digital product upsells. On your upsell page, you just need a short description and offer stack image to convey a high perceived value. If they click yes, they’ll be automatically billed, and if they click no, they won’t be. Remember, you already have that first yes. Don’t overcomplicate it.

Again, make sure the upsell makes sense and relates to the product they just bought. Video courses, eBook bundles, checklists, and worksheets are great examples. Upsells should enhance their experience with the product or help them achieve their goal, like selling bass fishing lures with a bundle of eBooks on bass fishing techniques.

4. Monthly Subscription

Lastly, we have monthly subscriptions. I use my all-time favorite program, Ecommerce Empire Insider, as a monthly subscription upsell. There’s a short description, just a couple of sentences. Then, instead of more text, I have a quick little three-minute video explaining the program and its benefits. This feels more personal and boosts conversions by helping people get past all their fears and objections to a monthly subscription.

Under that is the best offer stack image we’ve ever made. It so clearly displays how much you get—increasing the perceived value—that I don’t even have to describe everything included. The value is so over the top and in your face for such a good price that you’d have to be crazy not to buy it. I can’t stress this enough: you need good offer stack images for people to buy your digital products.

Below the offer stack image, visitors have the option to either prepay for the year and save or pay the monthly subscription. I usually say never give more than two options, yes or no, and I still recommend that for physical product subscriptions. However, in this case, since it’s a digital product with very simple options, it performs really well.

Here’s what I recommend for each option based on what I’d do if I were just starting out:

Front-End Digital Product Offers

I don’t recommend this for beginners. This can work well for influencers and people with an existing following or email list. However, it’s much less effective if you’re just starting out.

Order Bumps and Upsells

These are my favorite ways for beginners to sell digital products. For dropshippers selling physical products, related digital products make great order bumps and upsells. I 100% recommend these methods.

Monthly Subscriptions

I don’t recommend subscriptions for beginners because you need to create monthly digital products, so it’s more work. It’s better to hold off until you know whether buyers in your niche are interested in that kind of content.

How to Create an eBook: Complete Guide to Publishing and Selling Online

One of the best ways to earn income online is knowing how to create an eBook that you can then repeatedly resell online for a profit. Like other digital products, eBooks are great because you only have to create them once. Then they provide endless value as you can sell infinite copies to future customers. 

These products are particularly beneficial if you’re starting with a limited budget or if you don’t have enough money to hire professionals. In this complete guide, we’ll show you how to create an eBook and sell it for 100% profit as a continuous source of income.

What You Need to Create Your eBook

There are a few key elements you’ll need to create your eBook, including:

  • Placeit.net
  • Canva.com
  • Google

With these three tools, you can put together a winning eBook and use it to maximize dropshipping profits for your online business. Here we’ll review each tool and how it plays into the eBook creation process.

How to Create an eBook on Placeit

When it comes to mockups for eBooks, Placeit is excellent. Keep in mind that, unlike physical products, eBooks are intangible and don’t have the “feel” factor that people can experience with an actual book. Using mockup images from Placeit, you can at least emulate that sensation on a digital level to showcase your eBook’s look and “feel.” 

Upon visiting Placeit, you can easily enter “ebooks” into the search bar to begin browsing a large selection of mockup images. For example, you may see a mockup image of a book standing on three books, a hardcover mockup, or other images. You can overlay any of them with your book cover to lend a more physical sensation to your eBooks. All you need to do is select your mockup, upload your eBook cover and spine, and the site automatically replaces the default images with your custom images. 

You can use Placeit to create mockup images for other content, too. This includes video and audio content. Download images of physical versions of these media that you can use to replicate the tangibility of a physical product.

If you’re wondering what type of images you would use to create those mockups, that’s where Canva comes in.

How to Create an eBook on Canva

When creating your eBook, you can use Canva to accomplish two main objectives:

1. Design Your eBook Cover

Like Placeit, you can use Canva to design your eBook cover. To get started, click on the Templates tab at the top of the homepage. From there, you can again simply enter “ebook” into the search bar to begin browsing various images. On the next page, you’ll see many eBook cover templates to choose from as you look for the perfect image.

Once you locate the cover you want, you can click on it. Canva will enable you to customize the title, author name, and other elements of the template. While you may be tempted to design your own eBook cover from scratch, this is a time-consuming process that you can avoid with a simple, appealing template from Canva.

With your selected cover, you can then bring it into your mockup on Placeit.

2. Create Your eBook Content

After choosing your cover and mockup, you can begin creating the actual contents of the eBook using Canva. Based on the cover you select, you can use a corresponding aesthetic that looks much better than a basic template. Using the right visual elements for each page, you can keep readers engaged and ensure that your eBook benefits from high perceived value. 

Depending on the topic and your area of expertise, you may need to conduct some research into the topic to inform your eBook content. You can take cues from Wikipedia articles and other sources to help create your eBook. If you want to quickly put your eBook content together, Google is the next tool you’ll want to use.

How to Create an eBook: Using Google and PLR Suppliers

To begin looking for content ideas, head over to Google and enter a search based on your specific niche. For instance, you can search for “prepping PLR” on Google. PLR stands for private label rights, which allow customers to purchase digital products once from PLR suppliers and sell them repeatedly. Once you purchase a PLR, you can rebrand it and include your own company or name on it, making it officially yours to use.

PLRs are often very inexpensive, costing around two to three dollars in many cases. You can also find PLRs on multiple platforms, including Buy Quality PLR, But it’s important to avoid suppliers that aren’t as reliable. Apart from Buy Quality PLR, which we’ve used, we also suggest checking out ThePLRStore.com, which also has plenty of topics and high-quality content available.

When we searched for “prepping PLRs” on Buy Quality PLR, we found one article pack that was somewhat on the expensive side at $9.99. Scrolling down, you can see the details about the content, including lists of topics and potential uses for them. Once you choose the content you prefer, it’s time to repackage it. It’s worth noting that many of these files are plain and don’t do anything particularly interesting with the format. This is what makes Placeit and Canva so helpful; you can upload the content to these platforms to visually improve it.

You can also find a lot more than eBook content from PLR suppliers. In our search for prepping content, we found a collection of PLR videos on ThePLRStore.com that you could repurpose and sell or give away. Some PLRs also come with mockups, which can eliminate the need to use Placeit or Canva.

How to Easily Sell Your eBooks

Now that you’ve created your eBook, it’s time to sell it. There are a few different ways to go about selling your eBook, including:

1. Add Them to Your Upsell Pages

The easiest way to sell eBooks is to add them to your upsell pages if you’re using a sales funnel. This is because it’s easier to get people to add the eBook to their cart once they’ve already committed to purchasing the main product. 

2. Sell Them Through Your Order Bumps

Order bumps, or pre-purchase upsells, are also ideal for selling eBooks. You can sell them separately or in a bundle. When charging for your eBooks, we generally recommend including three to five eBooks that can solve some core pain points that customers may be experiencing. This will highlight the value of your eBooks.

3. Sell Them on Your Front End

You can also sell your eBooks on your front end, though this may be more difficult to accomplish. If you’re going to sell eBooks this way, we suggest you bundle them with physical products. This can increase their perceived value and inspire shoppers to actually make the purchase. 

Additionally, we recommend selling products as part of a weekly or monthly subscription. This can further generate income through these products and bring in more income every month.

Do Your Market Research Before Selling eBooks Online

I do a ton of market research for my businesses every day. However, my wife is the one who inadvertently led me to Etsy. That’s one of the best sites for collecting market research on digital products. 

My wife bought a fun little murder mystery game from a seller on Etsy. All she had to do was make the payment and then print off the 30 or so pages that the game consisted of right off our printer. In just a matter of minutes, my wife had received her order from someone selling a fun party game as a digital information product. When I saw this, I got inspired to research the multitude of digital products on Etsy.

Overall, Etsy is full of cool digital products from all sorts of niches. From digital download planners that you print out and put in a binder yourself to digital download murder mystery games to digital download baby shower invitations, the digital product content on Etsy is almost endless. 

That is why I suggest going to Etsy to do your market research on hot topics and niches in the digital product space. If you have an idea for a digital product, look it up on Etsy to see if there is any type of demand for it. You can also use Etsy as a source of information when trying to come up with a digital product idea to use in your dropshipping business.  

How Do You Sell Digital Products Online?

Once you’ve got your idea for your digital information product, it’s time to put your product creation into motion. The first step is to go to a PLR Website. I like to use theplrstore.com, idplrstore.com, or plr.me

However, there are a ton of PLR websites out there. PLR stands for Private Labor Rights. When you buy prewritten articles or a prewritten eBook from a PLR site, it is now an asset to your business. You can sell it, give it away for free, or bundle it with a physical product. The great thing is that you can buy these PLR products for $5 to $10. You can then sell them as many times as you want. 

How to Manage the Book-Making Process

The only downside to selling eBooks online is that when you buy a PLR product, you generally receive 50 pages or a few articles of boring white pages. In order to attract customers, you will need to edit the material. You’ll also need to repackage it as a more aesthetically pleasing eBook. Don’t worry. It’s not as hard as you think.

Did 2020 Q4 Live up to the Hype?

With the emergence of COVID-19, the ecommerce industry saw new growth, as well as new struggles throughout 2020. There was a lot of hype in late 2020 about how Q4 would stack up for the industry. Many industry leaders predicted the biggest Q4 ecommerce has ever seen due to COVID-19 restrictions and the rise of ecommerce as a whole. However, for Ricky, Kamil, Shishir, and me, Q4 didn’t necessarily live up to all the hype. 

So, why was Q4 such a letdown? The main reason for this letdown had to do with slow shipping times and supply shortages due to COVID-19. While some of us saw less in revenue but more in profit, Q4 was plagued with massive delays. Due to the shortages and slow shipping speeds, refunds were also at an all-time high during Q4. So while Q4 didn’t live up to the hype, it provided many useful lessons for us in the ecommerce industry. 

What 2020 Q4 Taught Four Dropshipping Millionaires

The number one takeaway from 2020 Q4 for four dropshipping millionaires is to focus on what’s in your control. None of us can control shipping speeds or supply shortages brought on by a global pandemic. However, we can control how we manage these situations and where we put our energy. The results of 2020 taught us all to focus our energy on only what we can control within our dropshipping businesses. 

Placing energy on what you can control includes building assets for your ecommerce business that are in your control. Social media is great, but my 2020 experiences also taught me that it’s not an asset that is fully in my control. Instagram locked us out of one of our business accounts for over two weeks. This experience taught me to place more of my focus on building email lists and collecting phone numbers. Why? Because that is an asset that can’t be taken away. To grow these assets also requires a deep focus on creating great landing pages with compelling copy. All in all, always place your energy in aspects that are in your control. Your ecommerce business will be better served by following this principle. 

2021 Ecommerce Tips

Looking ahead at 2021, there are rising trends that every ecommerce dropshipper should be aware of as the year progresses. For Ricky, Kamil, Shishir, and I, the following are our top 2021 ecommerce tips for all aspiring dropshippers. 

1. Digital Products Are a Must 

If you haven’t tapped into the digital product market yet, 2021 is the time to do so. More than ever before, people have tons of time to get on their phones and consume an infinite amount of digital products. 

A simple example of a niche digital product market is presets for photographers. Tons of people are getting into photography and editing as a hobby or side hustle. Selling presets is a great way to tap into this growing niche market. The great thing about digital products is that there are very few logistics to worry about. You aren’t sending out a physical product. This means you have no concerns about the slow shipping speeds or supply shortages that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought on.

To get more out of your customers and to stretch your revenue, you need to be utilizing upsells within your funnels. Simple upsells that make sense will transform your profit margins. Another way to get more out of your sales is by creating some sort of subscription service. This could be an exclusive digital members area or a monthly box subscription. Whatever model you choose, a subscription service has the potential to grow your ecommerce business by leaps and bounds. 

3. Tap Into Customer Emotions

The last of the ecommerce tips to really focus on in 2021 is to tap into customer emotions. On-demand printing has really taken off in the dropshipping industry. People love having personalized apparel, accessories, or other items. While on-demand printing is becoming a saturated marketplace, if you can find a niche that you can separate your business from others, you have a winning endeavor. Think about emotional angles when creating these types of businesses. If you can pull on the heartstrings with your product, you will be able to achieve a very high conversion rate.

If you’re thinking about starting a dog training course, Udemy can show you what courses are out there. It also shows which specific topics and subtopics people like the most. From there, you have one of two approaches you can take to selling dog courses:

  1. You can make your own from scratch. 
  2. You can repurpose content that’s already out there.

Repurposing Existing Dog Training Videos for Packaged Courses

Would you rather use content that’s already been produced and is ready to market and sell in a course? If so, then we recommend heading over to YouTube. There, you can search for dog training courses around the topics you want to cover. Now, you’ll likely find many channels with videos attracting millions of viewers, but these aren’t the ones we’re looking for. Instead, try to look for prolific channels that produce a lot of content but aren’t as popular. Channels with several hundred subscribers and many videos with thousands of views each can actually provide better opportunities for you than the biggest channels.

Once you find a channel you like, you can send them a message letting them know you like their content and asking them if they’d be willing to work with you. You can then offer them a chance to package their videos in a course, which you can market and sell to your audience in exchange for a commission sent to the producer. In the dog training niche, you’ll have no trouble finding content producers putting out plenty of videos that you can repackage and sell.

Using ThePLRStore.com for Other Types of Dog Training Content

If you want to sell content other than video, you can visit ThePLRStore.com to check out ebooks, articles, landing pages, and other course materials around dog training. On this site, there are plenty of pieces of content with private label rights (PLR). That means you can purchase this content, repurpose and rebrand it, and sell it as your own product. Another popular yet highly specific niche is the cryptocurrency space, which also provides plenty of opportunities. You won’t find as many courses on Udemy due to the specific nature of the niche. But it’s a very worthwhile space to target.

It’s important to keep in mind here that, like in other digital product niches, you should truly be good at what you do in the niche you target. If you plan on producing courses covering various cryptocurrency topics, for instance, you should know what you’re talking about. Otherwise, find people who have that expertise that you can lend to your digital product packages.

4. Weight Loss

Weight loss is always a popular, evergreen niche worth going after. There are always new strategies and products available to help people lose weight. Even better, that trend isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Weight loss is especially popular today, with so many people spending more time at home and struggling to maintain a healthy diet amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Again, your success in this niche will come down to the specific subtopics you cover in your content. Focus on narrower areas like  “weight loss for parents,” “weight loss for busy professionals,” or certain nutritional tips or workouts such as Zumba.

Many people are looking for topics about how best to market on TikTok, how to manage their accounts, and plenty of other areas you can easily capitalize on. We recommend you prove yourself to be an expert in this niche first, gaining some recognition as an authority on TikTok marketing on social media and other platforms before you go into offering a course and other digital products. While it might take some work, this niche is quickly becoming one of the best to pursue.
