Tareq found that investing in team members was the only way to take his ecommerce business to the next level. It’s simply impossible for one person to do everything needed to make an ecommerce business successful in a single day. Once you’ve been in the ecommerce space for a while, you will soon learn the importance of building a strong team around yourself. 

To reach the 10k Club, Tareq hired a variety of virtual assistants to help him complete all the daily tasks that would grow his business. For example, one of his team members is solely responsible for creating email content and handling the store’s email marketing. Another one of his team members is solely in charge of handling administrative tasks.

How We Launch Dropshipping Businesses Daily to Make Sales on Day One

Every day, we help businesses of all types excel with dropshipping from the start of their journey. We recently helped yet another one of our clients launch their dropshipping business and make sales on day one. Here we’ll review what exactly we did for this client and reveal how you can implement some of these strategies when developing your own business.

While a lot of businesses get into dropshipping with unrealistic expectations, we’ll go over what kind of results this Business in a Box client managed to see and what you can expect. Specifically, we’ll be looking at stats gathered over the course of the first two days after launch, which can give you a good idea of the kinds of numbers you can achieve with a strong strategy in place.

Using a Deep Discount Offer to Make Sales on Day One

When looking at our client’s back-end stats, we managed to help make them $265.61 in gross sales over the first two days, with an average cart value of $66.40. We achieved these goals after spending around $20-30 per day on advertising. 

The kind of offer behind these stats was something called a deep discount offer, which is notably different from a “free plus shipping” offer. You may be familiar with “free plus shipping” offers, in which lower shipping costs can cover both the product costs and shipping. These offers are often helpful because they attract new customers while enabling businesses to break even. Deep discounts, on the other hand, entail attempts to increase profits on the front end.

However, whether you use “free plus shipping” or deep discount offers, it’s important to keep in mind that advertising is primarily intended to help build assets for your business. For example, your ads could bring in email addresses and other details that you can then use to follow up with customers. 

Implementing Opt-Ins and Upsells in a Complete Funnel

As mentioned, this client’s average cart value (ACV) is $66.40. This is an impressive ACV that could drive huge success if it continues in this trend. Normally, the ACV will show how much a dropshipper can spend to acquire a customer. With the help of a successful sales funnel, however, you can usually earn that money back to help cover product costs. 

A Two-Step Opt-In Form to Get Customers Started

This particular client’s funnel consisted of an order form page to start with, followed by a couple of upsells. Using this funnel, our client achieved an opt-in rate of 26.52%, with 48 of 181 unique visitors opting in. For a two-step order form, this opt-in rate was perfectly acceptable. On these forms, we asked for the customer’s name, email, phone number, and address. In the process, a two-step order form like this can collect a lot of information that could assist you later.

In most cases, a two-step order form like this may yield a 25-30% conversion rate, while a regular opt-in form is more likely to see an opt-in rate of over 30%. Although it may seem like a regular opt-in form is better based on these numbers, the fact is that you’ll get better leads with a two-step form. This is because the people who opt-in through a two-step form are more invested in the product behind it.

After people went through the opt-in, our client managed to attract only four sales to give us a conversion rate of 2.21%. This is not a great conversion rate by any standard, but this is typical when just starting out. Remember, when first launching Facebook or other ad campaigns, these platforms won’t have your buyers figured out yet. As they collect more data and interpret it, your ads’ targeting will be able to improve over time to connect with people who are more interested in your offerings. 

In the end, through our opt-in form, we made a total of $170.82 in sales. Compare this to the total gross amount of $265.61, and you’ll see where upsells came into play to make sales on day one.

Upsells That Help Maximize Sales

Another mistake that many dropshippers make is relying on their opt-in page alone and neglecting to use upsells. They tend to focus on the first-time sale and don’t think about the sales that follow. 

For this client, the first upsell we implemented made a total of $26.91 with a conversion rate of 37.50% among three customers. The second upsell landed an extra $33.94, giving us a conversion rate of 28.57% with two customers. Finally, the third upsell earned another $33.94, with two customers accounting for a flat conversion rate of 40%. The last few upsells didn’t give us any results in those first two days, but the three that worked managed to bring that total value from $170.82 to $265.61. 

These numbers clearly show the value of using upsells to help generate more sales beyond that initial opt-in. Once someone enters your sales funnel through that first page, they’re far more inclined to make additional purchases on the way to the final checkout.

How to Locate the Best Upsells for Your Dropshipping Store

With the invaluable asset of upsells in mind, you may be wondering how you can find the ideal upsells for your store so you can make sales on day one. You can easily do so by taking the following steps:

1. Look on Amazon

To start with, you can search on Amazon under your main product’s “frequently bought together” items. This data is immediately available for you to use to guide your upsells.

2. Sell More of the Same

You can also try selling the same item the customer just chose to buy through the opt-in form. In some cases, it may be worth it to sell more of the same item at a discount if the product is something the customer would want to buy in larger quantities. 

3. Monthly Offers

In addition to the same or similar items, you can sell monthly subscriptions of digital or physical products that customers would like to receive regularly. This can help bring recurring revenue every month that you might otherwise miss. Subscriptions could include everything from eBooks and courses to various accessories for their main product and miscellaneous items in the same niche.

Build a Solid Sales Funnel to Get the Best Results and Make Sales on Day One

Realistically, you’re not likely to earn thousands of dollars within the first few days of launching your dropshipping business. That doesn’t mean you won’t earn these kinds of figures over time, but there are steps you need to take to get there. Based on this client’s example, you can see the importance of using a compelling offer, along with a structured sales funnel that consists of an opt-in and upsells. Through the use of a strong funnel, you’ll be able to experience great results that are only going to get better with continued optimization and persistence.

Before getting into our client’s stats and exploring their strategy, we can’t stress enough the importance of setting specific goals for your dropshipping business. Either strategy can work, but it’s crucial to decide which to pursue at the beginning before you start building your business. Approaching dropshipping as a side project can help you make some extra money. But turning it into a full-time effort will take a lot of work (albeit rewarding work).

With that in mind, let’s review what our client did to succeed in one of their early months.

Looking at the stats for our client over the course of May, they made just shy of $2,500 using a two-step dropshipping sales funnel. This amount is pretty good for dropshippers who are new to this industry. As we take these earnings into account, there are certain stats to pay attention to. They include:

Opt-In Rate

The first stat to look at is the opt-in rate, which is critical. This client had a 53.17% opt-in rate throughout May, totaling 746 email addresses collected. This is an impressive number, as we believe that dropshippers should be making around a dollar per email. 

By continually marketing to these leads, dropshippers can maximize each lead’s customer lifetime value (CLV) as they come back for both initial and repeat purchases. You’re essentially throwing away free money if you’re not sending emails to leads on your lists.

Dropshippers often make the mistake of thinking that ad campaigns will be the main breadwinners, but this simply isn’t the case. There’s a lot of competition on social media and other platforms, including advertisers with thousands to spend on campaigns. So you aren’t likely to see a lot of money from ads alone when initially launching your business. 

This is why a high opt-in rate and consistent email marketing are both so integral to your success as a dropshipper.

Our client saw an 8.98% conversion rate in May for their base products, which translates to 126 sales valued at $1,754.53. Again, this is ideal, as your conversion rate should be at around the 7-10% range from month to month. Additionally, one of this client’s upsells saw a 14.67% conversion rate, with 11 sales totaling $164.67. 

This is also a perfect percentage, considering most upsell conversion rates for similar products should stay in the 10-15% range. On the other hand, upsells for more premium, complementary products may be in the 8-10% range due to the fact that they’re new. 

A general rule of thumb regarding upsells is to sell customers more of the same product they just bought. If this strategy doesn’t work, you can simply visit Amazon; look for related products that people purchase together with your base product. In short, keep your upsells simple, and you’ll likely see ideal conversion rates from them.

In addition to this client’s base conversion rate and that of their first upsell, the client included three other upsells. Their second upsell saw a conversion rate of 17.98%, earning them $239.52 more. Their third and fourth saw conversion rates of 15.66% and 7.89%, respectively.

Altogether, our client’s sales totaled $2,490.15 for the month of May. 

The Importance of Subscriptions in Evaluating How Much Money Dropshippers Can Make

It’s worth noting that the fourth upsell was a subscription. The client gained six subscribers, which means six sources of regular monthly revenue. Some people may cancel their subscriptions. But many won’t. These purchases are invaluable for earning free and consistent revenue, as well as more sales. 

Consider how many brands have succeeded with subscriptions, from Netflix to Dollar Shave Club. If you’re not offering a subscription of some kind, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity.

When offering a subscription, there are a couple of ways you can approach it. First, there are full-priced subscriptions like the one our client offered, or you can do a downsell such as a discounted trial subscription. 

Stay Realistic and Use the Strategies That Work

Ultimately, we were impressed with our client’s progress during this one-month period. They were able to generate a solid number of sales for their base products, along with upsells and subscriptions.

 They also saw a high opt-in rate of almost 1,000 new emails. This can bring in thousands of dollars through consistent email marketing efforts. If you can keep in touch with email leads and optimize sales through upsells and subscriptions, you’ll be able to get the results you want. In turn, you can meet your goals as you grow your dropshipping business and maximize revenue.

How to Sell Viral Products and Make $10k per Month: Ecommerce Empire Builders Success Story

Welcome back, Empire Builders! I recently interviewed Ryan Jameson, our latest $10k Per Month Club member, about his strategy. We had a great conversation filled with useful advice about how to sell viral products, so I’ve summarized it here. Check out the full video to watch the whole conversation. Tell Us About Your Backstory and Journey So Far

Ryan Jameson: I started when I was young, selling online game currency, making and selling stickers, and using eBay and WooCommerce. I found Shopify around two and a half years ago and started dropshipping. I went from one niche to the next, trying to find something that worked with no success. Then one day, I came across your videos and started using ClickFunnels. Then around the end of last year, I tried selling a gadget and made around $5K, but the profit margin was low.

At the beginning of the year, when the UK lockdown started, I thought about the businesses that closed and what products people would need. I found a product, and, using what I learned about improving your offer, I created a product guide. That month, January, I made about $9k. 

Then, in February, I noticed that a product that solved a problem created by lockdown was selling well on my Facebook feed, and it had a good profit margin. I found a local supplier, so I would be able to offer 2- to 3-day shipping. That product made around $15k.

Peter Pru: I want to unpack that because you went through a lot. Some people might hear that and think you just got lucky and struck gold. But when you get right down to it, you had a good niche and a great offer. Half the battle is finding a niche with pain points and creating an offer around the solution.

One thing I always harp on is, what’s your differentiating factor? Why should they buy from you instead of someone else? In your case, you added a digital product showing them how to use it, which isn’t difficult, and that sets you apart.  

Did You Create Your Own Digital Products or Hire Someone?

Ryan: I did it almost all on my own. I started with a Google search to find out what the problem was and figure out the solution to quickly create an information product. The PDF how-to guide only took me a few hours to research and put together. But it helped me win sales over large competitors that were making a lot of money and running tons of ads. I’ve sold around 250 units in the last month, so adding an information product worked well.  

What’s Your Process for Creating Digital Products?

Ryan: I found a designer on Fiverr and hired him to make me a cover for like $5. I also had an offer stack image on the product page. Then I spent a couple of hours researching to write up the how-to guide on Google Sheets. I used automation to send the guide to customers after purchase, so it didn’t take any extra effort. It was fast and easy but really increased sales a lot.

Peter: Exactly! People often focus entirely on the product. Of course, you need a product that solves a pain point and provides value, but other people will be selling it, too. You need to give them a reason to buy from you instead.  

How Did You Find Your Supplier?

Ryan: Actually, I have an interesting tip. I went on eBay to find people who were already selling the same product. You can usually see their address and website on the page, so I found a local seller and went to their site. Luckily for me, they were banned from eBay, so I was able to sell their whole supply as part of my strategy for how to sell viral products.

Is This a Side Hustle, or Do You Want to Go Full-Time?

Ryan: I want to go full-time. I’ve been running simple funnels with few upsells and no subscriptions or retargeting ads on Facebook. I’d like to add them along with using Google Shopping to increase profits. Plus, I’ll be hiring a VA to help with customer service to save time. I got a photo of the products in the crates from my supplier as social proof to help with customer confidence and trust, as well. I plan to just keep expanding and improving to grow my business and my profits.  

Peter: I want to point out how being resourceful has helped you. Many people try one really obvious thing, like AliExpress. Then, if they can’t find the product they’re looking for, they throw up their hands and give up. You went to eBay and searched for local sellers. Getting that photo to help show people you have the products was smart, too.

You were thinking outside the box and thinking of imaginative solutions for how to sell viral products. That’s what you need as a business owner: resourcefulness, creativity, and adaptability. There’s always a way; you just have to be willing to find it. 

What Are Your Goals for This Year?

Ryan: Expanding. I’ve got Google Ads, and I’m running tests to see what works. Many products sell well if you offer them in packs of 1, 2, 4, and 6, but not this one. So next, I tried a 2-year guarantee as my upsell, and that worked. I plan to just keep testing, learning, optimizing, and expanding. 

Peter: You’re doing a lot of great things. I can’t wait to watch you hit all your milestones.

Any Final Words of Advice for How to Sell Viral Products?

Don’t just think about finding products in terms of what you like. A big part of how to sell viral products is looking at what’s trending right now. What are people currently buying? After that, it’s all about making the offer stand out so it makes sales. Also, don’t be scared to just jump in and try something. Learning is all well and good, but at some point, it takes action. Then, you can look at what went right and what went wrong to learn from experience.

How Using Dropshipping Funnels Helped Our Student Earn $50k per Month

One of our students, Leo Batistella, managed to go from $0 to $50,000 per month by using dropshipping funnels, along with other winning strategies. Leo has built several successful dropshipping businesses that hit the $50k mark. Here we’ll go over the steps he took to scale his businesses so quickly. We’ll also explore how he started dropshipping and his gradual journey to success.

Pursuing His Own Dreams of Success Online

Originally from Brazil, Leo moved to the United States to develop his own success story here. His story begins like many others: working a full-time job in which he was building someone else’s dream. Becoming disillusioned with this around two years ago, Leo was determined to start his own online business that would specifically be online. 

The day that he made this determination, he quit his job. With enough savings to get by in the meantime, he immediately started studying. Beginning with little information around eCommerce and dropshipping, Leo worked quickly to educate and equip himself with the knowledge needed to successfully start his business.

Leo lost money for the first six months of his endeavor. But he understood that this was part of the learning process and stuck with it. He pushed himself, working 12- to 14-hour days to build his business. The key motivating factor for Leo was the fact that he knew several successful dropshippers pulling in $50k per month in his network. This, coupled with the certainty that he could do as well as or even better than those examples, motivated him.

Searching for the Right Resources and the Right Product

Although Leo personally knew multiple successful entrepreneurs in his network, they didn’t provide him with any helpful guidance. Instead, Leo turned to external resources to learn everything he could about dropshipping. At the same time, he didn’t know who to learn from — so many gurus out there are seeking the spotlight. Leo also had a language barrier to contend with, as he preferred to learn from people who spoke Portuguese. Subsequently, he began seeking guidance from professionals in his native Brazil, only to find that most dropshippers in Brazil only conducted business in Brazil. 

Additionally, Leo sought the ideal product that would help him go from losses to profits. The solution would come as a surprise while spending time in Las Vegas. While in Vegas for New Year’s Eve, Leo discovered a product that most wouldn’t think to sell from the start: emergency urine bottles. In addition to a version for men, he sold another version for women as an upsell, finding that the product to be an unexpected winner. He eventually gained $40k in sales.

Leo reveled in his success with this hit product. But then the pandemic hit, and he was uncertain about his future. While at a party, he met an entrepreneur who saw success in manufacturing and was trying to market face shields, which weren’t yet widely used in the U.S. Because of Leo’s experience in B2C sales, this entrepreneur asked Leo to sell his products, which saw a quarter million in sales within a week. Leo wasn’t used to this level of success. So he sought help from both the entrepreneur behind these masks and his mentor in Brazil, the latter of whom would become Leo’s partner.

Discovering Ecommerce Empire Builders and the Key to Long-Term Success

Leo may have seen success with his initial ventures. But he was still experiencing certain frustrations when it came to upsells and establishing long-term success. As he attempted to learn more, he continued seeking out thought leaders he could trust. Eventually, he would come across us and a couple of other personalities he deemed worth following.

Using Dropshipping Funnels

Leo first started using dropshipping funnels in February. He developed his funnel after seeing a Facebook ad for a product that caught his eye. The seller of this product was already scaling in the U.S., so Leo wanted to try selling the product in Brazil. The problem was that Leo had no prior experience with dropshipping in Brazil. So, Leo reached out to his partner in Brazil and began selling this product to that market. The move would prove a success, culminating in $50k in sales in December 2020. 

This success motivated him to sell the product in Canada, considering the U.S. was the primary market. Again, Leo saw encouraging results when selling to the Canadian market. Leo thought the product had already saturated the U.S. But he decided to sell the product to this market again, this time using Clickfunnels. Once more, Leo saw great results that made him excited for the future of his business as he continues using dropshipping funnels.

Leo’s Goals for the Future

Ultimately, Leo wants to implement a strategy that consists of an eCommerce business in the back-end, with another business selling products in the front-end. He wants to build the back-end business to the point where he can begin selling those products on the front end. This way, he can benefit from the security of having two businesses.

One of the biggest aspects we admire about Leo’s success is his mindset. Leo is always motivated to continue trying new things. He sticks with a strategy until it works or until he comes across a better one. We understand that many people in this industry may not have that kind of mindset as they grow discouraged. 

However, Leo recommends that people continue committing to their business, learning regularly, and not giving up. There are so many opportunities out there and an unlimited number of products to try. This means your chances of success are extraordinary if you take the time to identify and commit to the right ones. In his early days, Leo celebrated the times when he simply wouldn’t lose money. Recently, he’s had more and more profitable days that are measured by bigger benchmarks.
